King John's Lodge, Etchingham, East Sussex
King John's Lodge is a Grade II listed manor house that was beautifully restored by the current owner and has been open to guests for many years.
The house has four double rooms all with en suite bathrooms available for guests and the house is situated in a beautiful area of England with great links to London.
Nestled in the heart of the High Weald the romantic eight acre garden of King John's Lodge is as beautiful as it is tranquil and has captured the hearts of many a garden lover from the UK and abroad.
The legend goes that the house is named after Jean le Bon the King of France. The luckless monarch was captured at the battle of Poitiers by the English Black Prince in 1356 and was imprisoned at the Tower of London.
He was later taken to King John's Lodge where he was held prisoner with a ransom set at three million crowns!
Artefacts from throughout history have been found in the house and garden including Roman coins, musket balls, a medieval dagger and numerous other relics - many of which are on display in the nursery.
