Rural Holiday Cottages!
Court Farm Holiday Cottages offers self catering accommodation in Exford, a pretty rural village that is set in the heart of Exmoor National Park in Somerset. Situated by the River Exe you can watch the varied and rare wildlife or walk across the moor to see the Exmoor Red Deer and the endangered Exmoor ponies.
The 3 self catering cottages include everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable break away. The accommodation comprises of:
Mountain Ash - A converted cow barn sleeping 4 people in 2 bedrooms. Downstairs there is a large lounge with leather sofas, flat screen TV, DVD and a log burner. Upstairs there is a double bedroom, twin bedroom with two single beds and a shared bathroom with shower cubicle. The double bedroom has a flat screen TV.
Rowan Cottage - The neighbouring cottage and mirror image of Mountain Ash. It too formed part of the cow barn and also sleeps 4 people in 2 bedrooms.
Snowdrop - Adjacent to the main farmhouse and is a stone-built, cosy cottage for 2. The ground floor lounge has a sofa, dining table and chairs, flat-screen Freesat TV with integrated DVD and a log burner. The kitchen has an electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine. Upstairs has a comfortable double bed and an en suite bathroom with bath & shower facilities.
All bed linen, electricity and central heating costs are included in the price. A starter pack of logs and kindling for the log burner is provided. Additional wood can be purchased (£2.50 per bucket), locally at the shop or you can bring your own. Sets of towels (face, hand and bath) can be hired at a cost of £5 per person per week. Dogs are charged at £15 per dog per week or £2.50 per night for shorter stays. If you wish they can purchase dog food in advance for you at cost plus 5%. Let them know your requirements when you pay your balance if you wish to use this service. Free parking is available in the car park close to the cottage where they can also accommodate horse trailers for those bringing horses.
When it comes to planning your break away, there really is nothing better than knowing you can escape the hustle and bustle of modern day living and find some well-deserved rest and relaxation. All the cottages are dog-friendly and they also have stabling for 2 and grazing for up to 4 horses, so there really is no reason why the whole family can't come with you! During the day why not explore the surrounding farmland, bridalways, local towns/villages and end your afternoon by stopping off at a local tea room for a sweet afternoon treat.
Then in the evening, put your warm clothes on and head out to enjoy the breathtaking views of the night sky. On clear nights from Court Farm you can see thousands of stars with the naked eye, compared with just a couple of hundred in built up areas because of light pollution. You can easily see planets, constellations and even the International Space Station when it passes overhead. Exmoor is an International Dark Sky Reserve and if you are an experienced astronomer with your own equipment they have a fenced flat area on the slope above the stables at the back of the house. You can set up equipment here without disturbing anyone and leave it in situ if you wish for the duration of your stay. There are other recommended sites within easy reach of Court Farm.
If you are a beginner or somebody who would like to try the experience then they have astronomical binoculars they can lend together with red light torches, show you stargazing software on their phones/tablet and help you identify things that are in the sky during your visit e.g. planets, constellations etc. Every Tuesday evening there is an event at the Exmoor Bridge Tearooms which is the Dark Sky Discovery Hub for the area. The evening includes a planetarium presentation with food and a sociable chat and a chance to try out a telescope and various apps. There is an optional walk out in the Dark Sky Reserve. You will leave well equipped to enjoy Exmoor’s starry skies during your stay.
