Herefordshire Countryside Escape!

The Riverside at Aymestrey offers guest accommodation in the picturesque village of Aymestrey near Leominster. Nestled deep in the heart of the Herefordshire countryside, it is located just on the southern edge of the Mortimer Forest, yet still close to Ludlow and Hereford.

Each room at The Riverside is individually furnished, with some featuring 400-year-old beams embedded in the walls. The suites are exceptionally spacious, each consisting of a lounge, bathroom, and bedroom. The Hayloft suite overlooks the river and opens directly onto the ornamental terrace gardens, which in turn look out over the valley. The Stable Suite provides access to the riverbank, making it perfect for the less mobile and those with dogs. Croft, the Masterking suite inside the main building, enjoys countryside views. Additionally, there are comfortable bedrooms in the main building with seating areas and a snug double.

The garden lodges at The Riverside include amenities such as a king-size bed, smart TV, homemade treats, free Wi-Fi connection, and a walk-in shower. The Beechenban lodge features a slipper bath in the bedroom for added luxury.

All meals at The Riverside are freshly cooked onsite, including stone-ground spelt bread, hay and meadowsweet ice creams, and lavender fudge. The dining rooms, named ‘Barn’, ‘Granary’, ‘Small Restaurant’, and ‘Lounge’, each offer their own unique character.

The bar and restaurant at The Riverside boast a traditional style, with the bar area featuring two double-sided wood-burning stoves for chilly days. Guests can enjoy hand-pulled real ales from Cleobury Mortimer and Stoke Lacey, and cider from Tenbury Wells and Leominster.

The river and its banks are teeming with wildlife, including dragonflies, dippers, otters, kingfishers, brown trout, and grayling. Guests can enjoy fly fishing on a 1½ mile beat upstream from the inn.

The Riverside provides a variety of circular walks ranging from 3 to 15 miles in length. The most popular walk takes visitors to an Iron Age Hill Fort and then onto Croft Castle, which boasts 1000 years of history. For those interested in longer hikes, The Riverside offers a Mortimer Trail package complete with transport, allowing guests to walk from Ludlow to Kington over two or three days and enjoy some of the most stunning views in Herefordshire.

Using The Riverside Inn as a base, guests can comfortably visit five golf courses, the Black and White Village Trail, Ludlow, Hereford, houses and gardens, heritage sites, breweries, cider presses, cheesemakers, visitor centres, and country parks.
