Farbrook Cottages, Quarnford, Buxton, Derbyshire, Peak District National Park
Farbrook is ideal for those looking to escape the everyday and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Peak District. Guests wake up to views of rolling hills, enjoy the company of grazing alpacas, and benefit from easy access to some of the region’s finest walking, cycling and sightseeing opportunities.
Overbrook Barn, which sleeps eight, is a sensitively restored early 19th-century pink gritstone shippon that once housed livestock and hay. Now a comfortable and well-appointed holiday home, it offers a spacious open-plan ground floor with kitchen, dining and sitting areas, all designed around three large picture windows that look out across the farm. The kitchen is equipped with modern appliances including a Neff oven, ceramic hob, dishwasher and washer-dryer, while the sitting area features a log-burning stove, television, Blu-ray player and music system. Fast Wi-Fi is available throughout. The ground floor also includes a main bedroom with a super-king bed and en-suite shower room. Upstairs, there are three additional bedrooms which can be arranged as twins or super-king doubles, along with a family bathroom. Outside, a gated and child-friendly garden provides the perfect setting for outdoor dining, complete with seating for eight, a barbecue area and the option to hire a private hot tub.
The Shearing Shed, once the centre of the farm’s alpaca-shearing operations, now offers contemporary accommodation for up to eight guests. It enjoys a particularly striking setting with panoramic valley views, best enjoyed from its floor-to-ceiling windows and the glass-balustraded patio overlooking the brook and alpaca paddocks. The open-plan ground floor includes a fully fitted kitchen, two dining tables that can seat up to 22 guests, and a cosy lounge area with a log-burning stove. A sofa bed offers additional sleeping space. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms which can be configured as either twins or super-king rooms, a modern walk-in shower room and an additional WC. The property is centrally heated throughout, and also offers a barbecue area and an optional private hot tub.
Both cottages are designed with comfort in mind, using natural-fibre duvets, cotton linens and hypoallergenic bedding upon request. Well-behaved pets are welcome at Farbrook, with secure gardens for their safety and acres of open fields perfect for off-lead walks. Guests are free to explore the entire farm and enjoy the relaxed pace of country life.
For those keen to explore the local area, Farbrook offers an ideal location. Bridleways and footpaths begin right from the property gate, inviting walkers and cyclists to enjoy the surrounding moors and valleys. The nearby village trekking centre also offers horseback rides through the landscape. For a day out steeped in history, Chatsworth House is within easy reach. Its formal gardens, grand water staircase, hedge maze and riverside picnic areas provide enjoyment for visitors of all ages, while the adventure playground is particularly popular with families.
Farbrook is a place where visitors can unwind, reconnect with nature and explore some of the most breathtaking scenery in the Peak District, all while enjoying the comfort and charm of a working farm stay.
