Southlands Farm Cottages, Gunnerton, Hexham, Northumberland
Guests can choose from three stone-built cottages, a converted hay loft, and a restored 1940s showman’s wagon. All of the accommodation can be booked together to sleep up to sixteen people, making Southlands Farm an excellent option for both couples and larger groups. The cottages have been carefully renovated from traditional Northumbrian sandstone buildings, retaining original features while offering modern comforts. Each property includes a patio area, a wood-burning stove, Wi-Fi, washing machine, and a complimentary basket of logs. Guests are also welcome to explore the gardens and pond on site.
West Cottage sleeps four people across a double and a twin bedroom, both with en suite bathrooms. The open-plan design features exposed stonework, a sitting area with TV, DVD player and wood burner, and a kitchen/diner with granite worktops and a full range of appliances. Middle Cottage is designed for two, with a galleried bedroom complete with exposed beams and en suite bathroom, while the ground floor provides a cosy sitting area and well-equipped kitchen. East Cottage offers a comfortable sitting room for up to six guests, a wood burner, a kitchen with an antique pine dining table, and a spiral staircase leading to a mezzanine twin bedroom.
For something different, The Hay Loft accommodates two in an open-plan space with high beams, a traditional handmade kitchen, and a wood-burning stove. The restored Showman’s Wagon provides a unique stay with original etched glass windows, hand-crafted kitchen, double bedroom, snug that can convert to a twin or double, and a large shower room.
The location is ideal for exploring Northumberland. Guests can visit Hadrian’s Wall, Hexham Abbey, Wallington Hall, and Kielder Water and Forest Park. Bamburgh’s historic castle and the sandy beach at Tynemouth are within reach for day trips, while local towns and villages provide further opportunities to enjoy the area.
