Seacombe, East Portlemouth, Salcombe, Devon

Seacombe is a unique and secluded self-catering house on the stunning South Devon coast, quietly situated between East Prawle and East Portlemouth, near Salcombe. Set in an elevated position, it enjoys panoramic views over unspoilt National Trust land, stretching all the way to the sea. The coastal path is easily accessed, and a right of way leads down through fields to a sandy beach below the house, making it a perfect retreat for those who love both comfort and the outdoors.

The award-winning house is thoughtfully embedded into the hillside, blending contemporary design with its natural surroundings. A wide wooden bridge leads to the main entrance, where guests arrive on the upper floor. Here there are two ensuite double bedrooms, a flexible twin or triple bedroom, and a family bathroom. This level also offers a wide sitting area and a generous balcony, both of which make the most of the spectacular coastal views. An oak staircase connects this floor to the lower level, where a spacious open-plan living area, kitchen, cinema room, downstairs cloakroom and large private stone-walled garden create an ideal layout for families and groups.

Seacombe is equipped with a range of modern comforts designed to make a stay feel effortless and relaxing. The house benefits from ground source underfloor heating and an air purification system, ensuring a comfortable environment throughout the year. Starlink fast Wi-Fi keeps guests connected, while filtered water and a bespoke, well-equipped kitchen and pantry make it easy to enjoy home-cooked meals in style. The kitchen and pantry include a fan oven, dishwasher, microwave, filter coffee maker, washer/dryer, fridge, freezer, drinks fridge and filtered water, providing all the essentials for short breaks or longer holidays.

The master bedroom features a king-size bed, sea views, a private balcony, television and an ensuite bathroom with a bath and overhead shower. The second bedroom offers a double bed, sea views, balcony, television and an ensuite shower room. The third bedroom has twin or triple single beds and a television, with a bathroom conveniently located next door. This thoughtful layout works well for families, friends travelling together or multi-generational stays.

On the lower floor, large sliding doors open from both the kitchen and the living area onto a limestone patio and the garden, allowing the indoor and outdoor spaces to flow together seamlessly. The open-plan living room includes a large seating area with leather sofas, along with a dining table, while a second dining table sits within the kitchen area, providing flexible options for communal meals. A smart television with surround sound completes the main living space, ideal for quiet evenings in.

One of Seacombe’s most distinctive features is its cinema room. Accessed through a disguised doorway that appears as a bookcase filled with DVDs and holiday reading, the cinema offers comfortable seating, a DVD and Blu-ray player and a 106-inch projected screen with surround sound. Iplayer and other online platforms can also be streamed, and dimmable lighting adds to the cosy atmosphere. The cinema even includes a double mattress that can be made up to accommodate a further two guests if required, adding versatility for larger groups.

Outside, the large patio area provides space for alfresco dining, with a barbecue and a table seating up to eight people. Beyond the stone-walled garden lies a large grassed area, ideal for outdoor games such as croquet, football, volleyball and badminton. Children have plenty of space to run and play, while adults can relax and take in the scenery.

Visitors to Seacombe can enjoy a rare sense of total seclusion. The house sits just above a sandy beach, giving a feeling of being tucked away from the world, yet with the convenience of easy access to the South West Coast Path. The nearby coastal walks are dramatic and memorable, with ever-changing sea views and rugged cliff scenery. For those wishing to explore further afield, Salcombe can be reached by passenger ferry, offering charming shops, cafés, restaurants and waterside strolls.

Overall, Seacombe offers a distinctive combination of modern luxury, architectural interest and complete privacy, all set in one of Devon’s most beautiful coastal locations. It is a place where guests can unwind in comfort, enjoy cinematic evenings, dine outdoors with sea views, and step straight from their door into some of the finest coastal walking in the region.
