Carradale Cottages, Carradale, Argyll
Mhairi’s Cottage is a traditional and characterful retreat, tucked away at the rear of the small cottage complex, beyond the hen house and drying meadow. Sleeping up to four guests, the cottage features one double bedroom and a bunk room suitable for children or the young at heart, with exceptionally sturdy bunks. While compact in size, the cottage has been completely redecorated throughout, retaining its original charm with unashamedly old-fashioned furnishings. The comfortable living room is ideal for unwinding, with a television, music centre, Wi-Fi and a wood-burning stove creating a cosy atmosphere. The kitchen is modern and efficient, equipped with a washer dryer and dishwasher, while the bathroom includes both a bath and a separate shower. Linen and towels are provided, with electricity and additional logs charged separately. The cottage is nicely secluded and safe for both children and dogs, and the view from the back door stretches across open fields towards Carradale Bay, a south-facing bay with golden sands that is warm enough for swimming during the summer months.
Colin’s Cottage and Douglas Cottage were originally one farm building and have since been thoughtfully converted into two studio-style cottages, each offering a comfortable and characterful stay. Douglas Cottage features a spacious and cheerfully furnished living area, with a traditional Scottish bothy-style box bed tucked neatly into its own curtained recess, offering both cosiness and ample storage. The living space includes a television, music centre, Wi-Fi and a good selection of books and maps for guests who enjoy quiet moments indoors. The kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave, dishwasher and washer dryer, making self-catering simple and convenient. A charming log-burning stove is a particular highlight, especially during the winter months, adding warmth and character to the space. Although Douglas Cottage does not have a garden, it benefits from a sheltered sitooterie surrounded by clematis and honeysuckle, providing a peaceful outdoor corner for reading, barbecuing or simply relaxing.
Colin’s Cottage offers a similarly welcoming atmosphere, with a bright and comfortable living space designed for relaxation. It also features a traditional bothy-style box bed set within a curtained alcove, along with generous storage. The cottage includes a television, music system, Wi-Fi and a selection of books and maps, while the well-equipped kitchen features a hob, combi microwave, dishwasher and washer dryer. Linen and towels are provided, with electricity charged separately. Outside, a delightful sun-filled garden offers a tranquil place to unwind, framed by tall fir trees, open fields and even a distant glimpse of Ailsa Craig. This peaceful setting is particularly popular with guests travelling with dogs.
Situated between the two distinct parts of the village, Carradale Cottages enjoy a quiet position surrounded by forest and farmland, while remaining within easy walking distance of local shops, restaurants and the beach. This unique location offers the best of both worlds, combining rural tranquillity with the charm of a coastal village. Nearby attractions include the beautiful sands of Carradale Bay, scenic walks along the Kintyre coastline, the historic Saddell Castle and the renowned links golf course at Machrihanish, making the cottages an excellent base for exploring this stunning part of Scotland.
