Helmsley is a very pretty small market town on the southern edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. It is sited on a bend on the A170 which runs from Thirsk to Scarborough. Helmsley has a spectacular ruined castle which is within five minutes walk of Holly-Garth. 

The Castle is owned by English Heritage and is well worth a visit. A little further away, but also accessible on foot is Duncombe Park, the seat of the Feversham family, which is open to the public.
