A beautiful Georgian property located in Cumbria!
Broadgate is a traditional Georgian house built in the 1800s. It offers stunning views across the Duddon Estuary immortalized in Wordsworth’s poetry. The sole occupants of Broadgate have been the Lewthwaites family and following an excellent but sympathetic redecoration in 2000 the splendid house remains a late Georgian gem. The 2-acre garden has colour all year round with amazing rhododendrons, azaleas and hydrangeas. The large walled garden is a mass of colour in the summer.
Broadgate makes the perfect base for seeing the Lake District. There are many sporting activities. For the climbers and walkers, there is mighty Scafell and the not so daunting Coniston Old Man, the Langdales and Tarn Hows and all the various routes up Black Coombe. Swinside Stone Circle is a short walk from the house. For water lovers on Lake Coniston, you can sail, take a speed boat or a canoe. For golfers, there is a 9 hole links course at Silecroft and at Ulverston, there is an 18 hole course.
Tennis can be played at the nearby village of Broughton in Furness. Cumbria Heavy Horses are situated 2 miles away for rides on the beach and up the fells. The beaches at Haverigg and Silecroft are wonderfully uncrowded. You can also swim in the River Duddon and the Lakes of Windermere, Coniston and Wastwater.
