The Rest and Be Thankful Inn offers bed and breakfast accommodation in the centre of Wheddon Cross the highest village within the Exmoor National Park. The B&B is the perfect base for those wishing to explore the nearby town of Minehead and the rest of Somerset beyond.
The bed and breakfast accommodation provides guests with a level of comfort more usually found in a four star hotel rather than a Country Inn. All bedrooms are en suite with good quality furnishings. The comfortable beds are made up with crisp cotton sheets. Soft white bathrobes and a basket containing good quality toiletries and face cloths provide extra touches of luxury.
Great care and attention has been taken to ensure your complete enjoyment whilst in accommodation in Exmoor, from double glazing to sound proofing the floor so that limited noise penetrates from the bar below. The two bedrooms at the front of the building are large and spacious and the three at the rear enjoy views of Dunkery Beacon and the surrounding countryside. Each room is like a hotel rather than a guest house and has a mini bar(remove), safe deposit box, hair dryer, tea and coffee making facilities, television and telephone. All bedrooms are non-smoking. There are ironing facilities on the first floor landing.
The restaurant has firmly established itself as the place to eat when visiting the moor, or to pop in for a light snack when out for a ramble. Pride is taken in the traditional home cooked pub meals, using local produce in and around Wheddon Cross whenever possible. Vegetarian dishes are always available, and any special dietary requests can be accommodated with prior notice.
The bar area has a traditional country pub atmosphere, with log fires in winter. There is also a skittle alley and a pool table. The bar’s normal opening times are (11am – 3pm, and 5pm – 12 midnight) and 10 am for morning coffee. Food is served in the bar and restaurant from 12 noon until 2pm and from 5pm until 8.30pm. In addition to the new restaurant menu, weekly specials are offered, light luncheon menu and traditional Sunday lunch carvery.
There is a secure store at the inn, where cycles and other equipment can be kept, and there is also a drying room for wet clothes and boots. Horse riding and hunting can be arranged with prior notice.
The fantastic Exmoor National Park is home to Snow Drop Valley. Tours and walks to Snow Drop Valley can be accessed from the bus leaving right from our door. The B&B also has enviable access to the West Somerset Railway less than 10 miles away.
