Lighthouse Accommodation!

The Old Higher Lighthouse is on Portland and offers unique accommodation for up to 8 people. The beautiful Isle of Portland is on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast near Weymouth and is a fantastic place to stay for those who want a coastal break away.

Guests have a choice of two cottages within the grounds of the lighthouse, Branscombe Lodge Cottage and Stopes Cottage. Each has a homely feel and has been comfortably furnished to ensure an enjoyable stay is had by all. Guests have access to the lighthouse tower observatory where they can sit and watch the fabulous sunsets while sipping their favourite tipple or view even further out to sea through the gun sight binoculars.

Branscombe Lodge Cottage – Ideal for families, this sleeps 4 people in a double and twin room. It has been equipped with all the necessities of a home from home, ensuring you can rest and relax from the moment you walk through the door. The location of the cottage is fantastic, so to ensure you can enjoy the best of the surrounding area, you will find the main living space on the upper floor. The first floor is a large sitting room with windows on all four sides, allowing you to enjoy much of the surrounding landscape as possible.

Stopes Cottage – A single storey building that is attached to the lighthouse by a long corridor. It sleeps 4 people in a double and twin room, both of which are comfortably furnished. The sitting room is cosy and the kitchen is well equipped, ensuring you have everything you need for an enjoyable break away.

The gardens have ornamental fishponds and garden furniture with a barbecue for those balmy days that Dorset gets more than its fair share of! Both cottages enjoy free parking, free Wi-Fi, seasonal access to the outdoor solar heated swimming pool and Jacuzzi.

The Isle of Portland is part of the 95-mile stretch of Dorset's coastline known as The Jurassic Coast, which was awarded a UNESCO World Heritage Site status because of its outstanding geology. The island is joined to the mainland by a causeway and the famous Chesil Bank, an 18-mile stretch of shingle running from Portland to West Bay. Best explored on foot, the island is a magnet for bird watchers, especially at migration times. Many rare species are seen and recorded at The Old Lower Lighthouse, which is now a Bird Observatory and Field Centre where visitors are welcome to call in.
