Historic Stay!

Whitsand Bay Fort, a luxury holiday resort in Cornwall's renowned "forgotten corner," offers unparalleled panoramic views over Whitsand Bay. Just a short distance from the main resort lies Radar Heights, a charming holiday cottage perched at the highest point of the Rame Peninsula. Secluded between two historic Victorian gun emplacements, this unique retreat invites guests to explore the rich history, natural beauty, and rugged charm of Radar Heights and its peaceful surroundings.

Designed with luxury and comfort in mind, Radar Heights boasts stunning westerly views across the bay, with every window framing the breathtaking Cornish landscape. In the summer, guests can relax in the private garden, enjoy barbecues, or sunbathe on the terrace, while winter offers the perfect backdrop for stargazing with a telescope or unwinding in the cosy ambience of this quintessential Cornish cottage.

Steeped in English history dating back to the 1930s, Radar Heights has been thoughtfully restored from a military blockhouse originally built to protect Whitsand Bay and the strategic naval base at Devonport, Plymouth. As one of the first chain radar stations constructed during World War II, this architectural gem now serves as a luxurious retreat overlooking the expansive sandy beaches of Whitsand Bay.

The cottage accommodates families comfortably with a king-size bedroom, a twin room, and a single bedroom. A fully fitted contemporary galley kitchen and a luxurious bathroom with a shower add modern comforts, while the spacious decking offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Guests staying at Radar Heights Cottage enjoy access to the indoor heated swimming pool at Whitsand Bay Fort Holiday Village, complete with newly renovated changing rooms, showers, toilets, and complimentary lockers for convenience.

Within the historic 1890s underground building, once an ammunition depot, is the Fort Bar & Restaurant, offering a selection of lagers and ciders on tap, including Carlsberg, San Miguel, Shipyard, Arctic Sky, Rattler, and Somersby. With a menu crafted from locally sourced ingredients, the restaurant provides an inviting spot for guests to enjoy fresh, popular dishes in a unique, atmospheric setting.

The untouched beauty of Whitsand Bay, a coastal heritage area, preserves its character from its smuggling past. With four miles of sandy beaches watched over by the local RNLI station, the bay offers a tranquil escape with rugged coastlines, craggy rocks, and serene rock pools to explore. A small café at the top of the bay provides refreshments, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a peaceful day by the sea.
