The Cob at Montpelier is a luxurious and unique Bed & Breakfast located near Hay-on-Wye, nestled within four acres of stunning gardens and wild meadows. Designed as an eco-friendly retreat, this remarkable cob house, built using straw and lime render with exposed Douglas fir timbers and a living roof, offers a serene escape just 30 metres from a charming 200-year-old stone cottage.
Accommodations
Guests can relax in the tranquil surroundings, enjoying the verandah where red kites and buzzards glide above, and Roe deer may be spotted in the meadows leading to Brilley Wood. Inside, The Cob provides a warm and inviting atmosphere with two beautifully designed rooms:
Sitting Room: Features a wood-burning stove for cosy evenings, complemented by large windows and a skylight that fill the space with natural light during the day and provides views of the starry skies at night.
Bedroom: Boasts a luxurious king-size bed with a wool mattress for year-round comfort. Guests can wake up to serene views of the garden, orchard, and meadows.
En-Suite Bathroom: A standout feature with a walk-in shower, plank-effect tiles, a quirky basin, and fluffy towels warmed on the radiator for added indulgence.
Dining and Amenities
Guests can start their day with a choice of an Aga-cooked full English or a Continental breakfast, served at their preferred time either in the Sitting Room or on the verandah. A fridge stocked with fresh milk is available for tea or coffee at any time. While The Cob does not allow heating or cooking of food, the thoughtful amenities ensure a comfortable and relaxing stay.

Adult-Only Retreat: A maximum of two adults per night with a minimum two-night stay.
