Welcoming B&B!

Applegarth Bed and Breakfast – Tranquil Riverside Hospitality in Southern Scotland

Set on the banks of the Applegarth Beat of the River Annan, Applegarth Bed and Breakfast offers a warm and peaceful escape in the heart of Dumfriesshire. Surrounded by natural beauty and steeped in history, this welcoming B&B provides guests with a serene and comfortable stay hosted by Andrew and Kirsteen, whose hospitality is as memorable as the setting itself.

Comfortable and Thoughtfully Furnished Rooms
Guests are welcomed into the main house with homemade scones, cakes, and a refreshing glass of elderflower cordial in the traditional drawing room. The bedrooms are elegantly appointed, each featuring luxurious beds, soft pillows, and crisp Egyptian cotton sheets. Non-allergenic bedding is available upon request.

Applegarth offers four guest rooms:

Annan – A spacious en-suite room with a super king-size bed

Dryfe – A comfortable en-suite with a king-size bed

Kinnel and Moffat – Two charming, cottage-style single rooms, available only when booked with either Annan or Dryfe; not available for individual bookings

Both Annan and Dryfe are equipped with internet-enabled televisions, while Kinnel and Moffat do not have TVs, though WiFi is available throughout the property.

Bathrooms & Amenities
The en-suite bathrooms in Annan and Dryfe feature baths with overhead drenching showers, while a shared bathroom on the landing provides a spacious walk-in shower. Guests enjoy Scottish Fine Soaps toiletries in reusable, eco-friendly dispensers, along with heated towel rails and thick, fluffy towels for a touch of luxury.

Each room includes a hospitality tray with a cafetière, teapot, a selection of teas, ground coffee, and biscuits. While dogs are not permitted upstairs or in bedrooms, they may sleep in a designated area downstairs.

Dining Experience
Dinner is available by prior arrangement and should be requested when booking. Prepared by Kirsteen, the two-course meals feature fresh, seasonal ingredients and are tailored to guests' dietary preferences. When only one couple is staying, dinner is served as an intimate candlelit meal in the bay window. Guests are invited to join Andrew and Kirsteen for a complimentary pre-dinner drink, either in the drawing room or, in warmer weather, out in the garden.

When additional guests are present, dinner is served in the elegant dining room, often transforming into a convivial, hosted evening filled with conversation and laughter.

Gardens, History & Relaxation
Guests are encouraged to explore the beautiful gardens in warmer months, where tea can be enjoyed outdoors. At the far end of the grounds stands a 12th-century Motte, the historic site of Clan Jardine’s fortified dwelling and now a Scheduled Monument. Applegarth hosts the Jardine Clan Gathering every four years.

A west-facing deck provides panoramic views across fields of sheep and cattle with the Annandale hills beyond—an ideal spot to enjoy a glass of wine at sunset. In cooler weather, guests can relax by the roaring fire or unwind in the informal family room, which includes a television for added comfort.

Ideal for Walkers & Nature Lovers
Applegarth is located directly on the renowned Annandale Way, a 56-mile walking trail recognised by Scotland’s heritage. This scenic route follows the River Annan from its source in the Moffat hills to Annan and the Solway Firth, and can be completed over four to five days. It offers a rich walking experience through varied and picturesque landscapes.

Applegarth Bed and Breakfast is a haven for walkers, nature lovers, and history enthusiasts alike, blending timeless Scottish charm with genuine hospitality and comfort in one of Dumfriesshire’s most scenic locations.
