Ethie Mains, Inverkeilor, Arbroath, Angus

Tucked away on the picturesque east coast of Scotland, Ethie Mains offers a peaceful year-round escape in the heart of Angus. Just moments from the sweeping sands of Lunan Bay, the estate provides the perfect base for exploring a region rich in natural beauty, historic landmarks, and cultural treasures. Whether it’s coastal walks, golf courses, or a quiet evening by the fire, Ethie Mains brings together luxury, tranquillity, and a strong sense of place.

Grieve’s Cottage and Gardener’s Cottage, both beautifully restored and thoughtfully designed, provide comfortable, characterful accommodation with sweeping views over the surrounding farmland and coast. Each cottage features a spacious garden, tasteful interiors, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Guests can unwind in a ‘Sitooterie’ conservatory, enjoy the glow of a woodburning stove, or take in the sea air from a wood-fired hot tub.

Grieve’s Cottage is a stylish single-storey home with a newly fitted kitchen that looks out towards Lunan Bay. Its cosy sitting room, warmed by a woodburning stove, is ideal for unwinding after a day exploring the coastline. The conservatory offers a scenic dining space, while the three bedrooms—including a king-size four-poster master and a children’s bunk room with its own workspace—make it ideal for families or small groups. The outdoor area, with its wood-fired hot tub and al-fresco dining set-up, completes the experience.

Gardener’s Cottage, also arranged on one level, blends original charm with modern comfort. Enter through a practical boot room into a sleek galley kitchen, and relax in the spacious lounge or conservatory with views across the Angus countryside. With two bedrooms, including a flexible master and a single room with a desk overlooking the bay, it’s a calming, well-equipped retreat. The garden, with its hot tub and dining space, invites long evenings under open skies.

In addition to these cottages, a newly refurbished one-bedroom retreat—Keeper’s Cottage—will soon be available, along with two glamping pods for guests seeking a more adventurous but still comfortable stay.

The setting of Ethie Mains itself is nothing short of spectacular. The farm runs along two miles of coastline, where fertile fields meet red sandstone cliffs and the sea. Ancient woodland, natural habitats, and ponds attract wildlife, while landmarks like Murdoch’s Chapel add depth to the landscape’s character. Angus, with its castles, historic houses, and cultural attractions such as the V&A Dundee, is a region that combines rugged beauty with rich heritage. From the dramatic ruins of Dunnottar Castle to the architectural majesty of Glamis and the abbey at Arbroath, the past feels close here. Meanwhile, seasonal festivals, outdoor pursuits, and a strong culinary tradition ensure visitors enjoy every moment.

Ethie Mains is more than just a place to stay—it’s an invitation to slow down, reconnect with nature, and savour the best of Angus. Whether for a romantic retreat, family holiday, or quiet weekend away, it offers an unforgettable experience on Scotland’s coast.
