Cathair Dhubh, Lochinver, Sutherland
The estate comprises five cottages, each nestled within 80 acres of spectacular Highland landscape. These cottages are located near one of Scotland’s most secluded white sandy beaches, making them perfect for nature lovers, walkers, and those seeking serenity by the sea.
The four two-bedroom cottages — Fern, Orchid, Myrtle, and Thistle — offer the ideal base for families or small groups. Each cottage features a double and a twin bedroom, with a shared bathroom that includes a shower over the bath. The open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area creates a welcoming and sociable space, with large French doors framing the stunning views of the surrounding coastline. The kitchens are fully equipped with an oven, hob, microwave, fridge freezer, and dishwasher, while additional amenities such as a washing machine and tumble dryer ensure all modern comforts are provided. Satellite TV is also available for cosy evenings indoors.
Heather Cottage is designed to accommodate larger groups and is especially suitable for guests with limited mobility. It features three bedrooms, including two twin en suite rooms and a ground-floor double en suite with direct access to the patio. A ground-floor WC adds convenience, and the open-plan living area continues the estate’s theme of space and comfort. Like the other cottages, it is fully equipped for self-catering stays, with a well-appointed kitchen and modern appliances. The living area opens out through French doors onto a private seating area, offering the perfect spot to enjoy morning coffee while admiring the coastal views.
The surrounding area is rich in natural beauty and outdoor adventure. The coastal path from Achmelvich leads to the old water mill at Port Altanabradhan, where visitors can discover abandoned millstones and a peaceful sandy cove. The award-winning Achmelvich Beach, renowned for its white sands and crystal-clear waters, is a short distance away and provides a haven of tranquillity. The area is also home to abundant wildlife, with opportunities to spot seabirds, seals, and other coastal creatures.
For those seeking adventure, the region offers a variety of water-based activities, including canoeing, kayaking, surfing, diving, and yachting. Whether exploring the rugged coastline, relaxing on secluded beaches, or simply soaking in the beauty of the Highlands, Cathair Dhubh Estate offers a truly memorable escape in an extraordinary setting.
