Field Beck, Cartmel, Cumbria

Tucked away on a quiet lane at the edge of the village of Cartmel, Field Beck enjoys wonderful views across the medieval priory and has all the elegance and charm of a Georgian house that Jane Austen herself might have admired. This Grade II Listed home is filled with natural light, with every room offering attractive views and catching the sun throughout the day.

The house has been carefully conserved and furnished with antiques and vintage pieces that enhance its historic character. Inspired by Landmark Trust properties, modern comforts have been introduced with great care, ensuring the building’s individuality, quirks and sense of history are preserved. For guests who appreciate a comfortable home with genuine character, Field Beck offers a truly special stay.

On the ground floor, the accommodation includes a welcoming sitting room with a wood-burning stove, a separate dining room, a scullery and boot room, and a kitchen with a breakfast area that still features its original 1950s stainless steel units. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms comprising two doubles and one twin, with one of the double rooms also featuring its own washbasin. A family bathroom completes this floor, while above, a spacious attic provides an additional relaxing area with a television.

Below the house, the original cellars with stone-flagged floors add to the strong sense of history. This level also includes a games room with dartboard, snooker and football tables, offering entertainment for all ages, along with an additional toilet.

Outside, Field Beck is set within a large walled garden featuring a pond and stream, creating a peaceful and private environment. The patio area is a sunny spot ideal for barbecues and outdoor dining. The house comfortably sleeps six guests, with discounts available for smaller groups, and a well-behaved dog is welcome to join the stay.

Cartmel itself is renowned for its 800-year-old Priory, picturesque village square and charming racecourse, as well as its outstanding reputation as a gastronomic destination. All of the village pubs serve excellent food, and there are several exceptional restaurants nearby, including L’Enclume, which has been voted Britain’s best restaurant three years running. With a cheesemonger, artisan bakery, chocolatier, micro-brewery, a delicatessen famous for its sticky toffee pudding and a regular open-air food market, Cartmel is truly a dream destination for food lovers.
