Faraway Follies, Llandegla, Wrexham, Denbighshire
Owl Lodge is a charming holiday retreat that sleeps up to four guests and has been thoughtfully created from a former garage and game larder at the entrance to a 19th-century shooting lodge, on the edge of a North Wales grouse moor. Originally transformed into a healing room and artist’s studio around fifteen years ago, it now offers calm and restorative accommodation designed for rest and relaxation. Located close to Llandegla Mountain Bike Centre and the iconic Horseshoe Pass, it provides a welcome escape from everyday life. Guests can unwind in the hot tub while taking in sweeping valley views, listen to owls after dark and watch small birds moving through the surrounding trees. The lodge is arranged on one level and includes a double bedroom with a comfortable mattress and Egyptian cotton bed linen, along with a sofa bed in the sitting room that converts into a king-size bed, complete with matching Egyptian cotton bedding stored neatly beneath the sofa.
The Doghouse is a cosy retreat for two, created from the former kennel building of the same 19th-century shooting lodge. Ideally located near Llandegla Mountain Bike Centre and the renowned Horseshoe Pass, it is perfectly suited to guests looking to unwind and recharge in a natural setting. Surrounded by countryside, the property is filled with the soothing sounds of birdsong and a nearby stream, best enjoyed from the hot tub or with the windows open to the fresh air. Inside, a comfortable double bed dressed in Egyptian cotton sheets is positioned to make the most of views across the valley and flowing water. A wood-burning stove adds warmth and atmosphere, while the compact kitchen is well equipped with a gas hob, microwave, mini oven, toaster and kettle. Outside, a veranda with comfortable wicker chairs overlooks the stream and provides a peaceful spot to relax and watch the sun set.
Copse Camp offers a more adventurous off-grid experience and sleeps up to six guests. Covered in playful Beano comic wallpaper, this quirky retreat provides a cosy escape surrounded by nature, warmed by a crackling wood-burning stove. Mornings begin in the snug loft sleeping space before crossing the rope bridge to prepare breakfast over a fire pit or in a Dutch oven, with the option of using a gas hob in the kitchen for added convenience. Additional sleeping space is provided by two traditional gypsy caravans, while a deck beneath the treehouse creates a sheltered outdoor dining area. With more than three hundred acres of land to explore and a private wood-fired hot tub perfectly positioned for sunset views, Copse Camp delivers a memorable back-to-nature stay full of character.
Guests staying at Faraway Follies can also enjoy exclusive access to the Secret Sauna at Penguin Pool for a refreshing and restorative experience. By arranging a time in advance, everything is prepared and heated ready for arrival, allowing guests to relax in the warmth of the sauna before taking an invigorating cold dip in the clear mountain spring water that flows into the pool from the stream. Use of the sauna is available for a small additional charge per person.
The Stable Studio provides a flexible and exclusive retreat space available to hire, making it ideal for small groups seeking a peaceful countryside setting. Surrounded by nature and free from everyday distractions, it offers a calm and inspiring environment for rest, creativity and wellbeing. A range of events are hosted throughout the year, including sound baths, yoga sessions, pilates classes and other holistic activities, with further details available via the Faraway Follies website.
