Andersen Boats, Middlewich, Cheshire
What sets Andersen Boats apart is the quality and individuality of the fleet. Each boat is built in-house from scratch, beginning with sheets of metal and wood, and crafted with care and attention to detail. This hands-on approach ensures every vessel is well designed, expertly finished and maintained to consistently high standards, helping guests enjoy a smooth and comfortable experience on the water.
All boats are equipped with the essentials needed for a self-catering holiday, including a shower, fresh water flush toilet, refrigerator, cooker and central heating. Boats fitted with full 240V systems also include microwaves. On board, guests will also find a stereo radio with CD player, a mobile phone socket (guests are advised to bring their own 12V car lead) and either a 240V socket rated at 150 watts or a full 1500+ watt system, depending on the boat.
A number of extras are included at no additional charge, helping guests settle in from the moment they arrive. These include an LCD TV with Freeview and DVD player, car parking, all fuel, a hairdryer and full bedding with duvets and pillows. Andersen Boats also caters well for families, with cot sides and child gates available on request for semi-traditional style boats. Buoyancy aids are available for all guests, with compulsory use for children under 16. With a range of boats available from 2 berth up to 10 berth, the fleet suits couples, families and groups of friends alike.
The Middlewich location provides access to a wide choice of cruising routes, from peaceful rural stretches to journeys that take in lively towns and historic cities. The Llangollen Canal is a popular option, known for its dramatic scenery, famous aqueducts and the vibrant town of Llangollen. The Caldon Canal offers a quieter and more traditional experience, winding through the picturesque landscapes of the Potteries. Guests can also cruise towards Chester, a historic Roman city, and continue on to the Boat Museum at Ellesmere Port.
Many routes are out-and-back journeys, allowing guests to travel at their own pace without the pressure of completing a circuit. For those seeking more variety and adventure, Andersen Boats also recommends circular routes such as the Cheshire Ring or the Four Counties Ring. Each canal has its own distinct character, shaped by its history and the engineers who built it, offering a rewarding experience with something new to discover around every bend.
Guests are welcome to tailor their journey depending on time and interest, and the Andersen Boats team is always happy to help with route planning. With guides and maps available and plenty of local knowledge, they can assist in choosing the right boat and itinerary to suit every group.
Dogs are welcome too, with up to two dogs allowed free of charge by arrangement. An additional dog can be accommodated for £30 per stay, and guests are asked to advise at the time of booking.
