Harebeck Holidays - Glamping Units, Gosforth, Seascale, Cumbria
Guests can choose from two Shepherds Huts and two Bow Top Romany Retreats, each offering a comfortable and memorable way to experience the Lake District. In addition to glamping, Harebeck Holidays also offers camping and a self catering cottage, making it easy to find the right option for every type of stay.
A key part of the Thornbank experience is the sense of being immersed in nature. Evenings are made for watching the sky darken over the fells and taking in sunsets where the sea meets the mountains. The glamping units each sleep up to four guests, with space for two adults and two small children. The Shepherds Huts are also suitable for those travelling with a dog, allowing one small to medium-sized dog per unit by pre-booking.
The Sheep Fold is a modern take on a traditional Shepherd’s Hut and has been designed with comfort in mind. Underfloor heating makes it cosy in all seasons, while the sheltered outdoor seating area provides a pleasant space for alfresco dining. Inside, there is a comfortable double sofa bed and a compact kitchen area equipped with a mini oven, toaster, kettle, sandwich maker, slow cooker and mini fridge. A fold-out table with chairs, bedside drawers and thoughtful touches such as wildlife guides and binoculars complete the space, encouraging guests to explore the farm’s surroundings and spot local animals.
Owl Hoot takes its name from the barn owls that glide over the fields at dusk. This heated pod includes a double sofa bed, a fold-up table with chairs and a practical kitchen area featuring a kettle, toaster, sandwich maker, slow cooker and mini fridge. A shelving unit provides storage for crockery, utensils and games, making it easy to settle in for relaxed evenings. Outside, sheltered decking with a table and chairs offers magnificent views towards Scafell and the surrounding fells. Like The Sheep Fold, Owl Hoot can accommodate one small to medium-sized dog with pre-booking.
For something a little different, the Romany Retreat consists of two Bowtop Caravans, each with its own character and charm. These can be booked separately or together, and both have private seating areas with wonderful views across the Wasdale and Eskdale fells. This is the only area on site where campfires are permitted, with a tripod and utensils provided for traditional outdoor cooking. Each Bowtop includes electricity, lighting, a heater, kettle, toaster and mini fridge. Bedding and towels are supplied for the double bed, and there is an additional small cupboard bed underneath suitable for two small children, although bedding for this is not provided. Extra storage is available outside in a watertight trunk, and guests can also access a shared fridge and freezer in the drying room. Each Vardo includes a starter supply of wood, kindling and paper, with additional supplies available to purchase on site.
Kezia is the most decorative of the Bowtops and is slightly wider, making it a good choice for taller guests. Rosella is decorated with fluffy cow print fabric on the ceiling and includes a small pull-out table inside. Due to space restrictions, dogs are not permitted in the Bowtops, although outdoor runs may be available in the future.
For families or groups who want extra space, it is also possible to book additional tent space next to a glamping unit for an additional £20 per night, subject to availability.
As well as being a destination in its own right, Thornbank is perfectly positioned for exploring the best of the Western Lake District. Scafell Pike, England’s highest peak, is just six miles away in Wasdale Valley, while Seascale Beach offers miles of open sand at low tide and is particularly popular for dog walking. Golfers can enjoy a nearby links course, with views towards Scotland and the Isle of Man on clear days. Ravenglass, around six miles away, is home to the dog-friendly Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, and Muncaster Castle, just over six miles away, offers more than 70 acres of woodland gardens to explore. The beach is around four miles away, and guests will also find a shop, pub and restaurant within three-quarters of a mile.
Whether guests are looking for a walking base near Scafell Pike, a peaceful escape with views across the fells, or a family-friendly glamping experience with the comforts of home, Harebeck Holidays at Thornbank Farm offers a memorable stay in one of the Lake District’s most spectacular corners.
